‘Blog-tober’

Here I go… I’ve set myself a challenge and I’m excited… Jump on board! For those of you who don’t know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As a survivor of young breast cancer, with an innate love to write and a will to educate – I have instigated this project to share with you:  What can you expect in ‘Blog-tober’? Whilst not everything will directly be about breast cancer – because let’s face it… breast cancer is shit and no-one wants 31 days of shit… right?! I do, however, aim to give the month of October a flavour of pink… “To see the light, you must first learn to deal with darkness” – Dan Millman “There is the good and the bad, the great and the low, the just and the unjust. And that will never change” – unknown. [Nothing quite like a dose of reality – life is certainly about accepting the good with the bad and the great with the ugly]. Getting a little excited…

Yayyyy, yayyy, yayyyy!! Things are coming together and tomorrow I am having a photo shoot for my ‘coming soon’ business. Props ready, outfits ready… I think?! I’ve had some beautiful friends who have helped me prepare for my upcoming launch through their own creative talents and businesses – there are some pretty savvy and fabulous gals in this town. Not to mention support in general from some great friends and some new friends. Deciding to start a business is something that I have thought about for quite some time. Then… one day, the penny dropped and I just thought…. YES! Now is the time. I’ve been working on my business start-up and development for months now, not a day goes by that I don’t have small moments of doubt… momentarily that is… then I suck it up and realise that nothing comes easy and nothing propels you forward more than a little fear or discomfort. Push those boundaries peeps! Believe! My experience with business thus far… has come from two facets. Firstly, when I worked …

Do you plan more than you do?

Woohoooo…. I did it. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to get my motor bike license.   The difference now, is that I’m changing my wants, taking them off my ‘to-do list’ or ‘dream list’ and I’m making things happen. I’m so excited! You may now see me scooting around on my little white Vespa (with L plates). I rode motorbikes my whole childhood and I loved it. There is something freeing and exhilarating about being on two wheels with the wind in your hair. It’s something fun to look forward to on a beautiful day when I have some time to myself. This has been on my ‘want to do’ list for about ten years (enjoy my 90’s slide show below). For as long as I can remember I’ve always had lists. To-do lists, wish lists, one day lists, daily lists, shopping lists, study lists, medical lists etc. I have always been a queen of lists. Typo, Kikki.K, Office Works, Kmart… you name it, these shops lure me in every …

Snail Mail

Is snail mail a dying virtue? A fading art form… An expiring tradition? Are pen pals a thing of the past and where did our collection of sweet, matching stationery sets go? Not to mention… when was the last time you hand wrote a note to someone? Snail Mail they call it… It now takes two to six days to receive mail in the same town (unless you pay priority for delivery in one to four days). How much is a stamp these days? That’s right, a majority probably doesn’t know. I only discovered this recently, the last I was aware, it was 50c, that’s how long it’s been since I regularly acquired postage stamps – they’re now $1. Wow, I thought, that’s kind of expensive for one standard size letter. Or, is it??? Texting, emailing, ‘Snap Chatting’ and conversing through Facebook and Instagram is now the modern day way to communicate: Convenient? Yes. Fun? Yes. Addictive? Yes. [Don’t worry I’m not suggesting a strike of social media.] I had a brief case full of …

Nine to Five

This is not about work, this is not about the daily 9’am’ to 5’pm’ grind… Who hates mornings? Or, should I say dislike [I discourage my kids from using the word hate, I say it’s “too strong of a word”]? Who pulls the covers up under their chin when the alarm goes off? Who presses snooze button once… twice? Fifteen times? Pick me, pick me!!! Yep… I am the ‘snooze’ button queen. Though, forever the optimist! Every night… every single God damn night, I tell myself that I am going to get up early and do all the things a perfect morning should entail. Ask my husband and he will most certainly attest that EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT, I advantageously set my alarm for 6am. Do I get up? Hell no – like I said, I’m the snooze queen and I am the one that presses that button fifteen times! How can one have so much ‘hope’ of an early rise, yet time and time again, fails to do so? Of course there’s been the odd …

Setting Goals

I just wrote pages and pages about setting goals, I initially felt good about the content, it was suitable and practical and the blog was written as a marathon analogy. Why a marathon? My hubby completed the Gold Coast marathon today so I thought it was fitting. [Well done hubby… we are very proud of you.] So… why did I decide not to post these said pages?? It was DULL and lacked unique innovation for a topic so frequently discussed and documented. We’ve all been to seminars, read books and seen loads of compelling content on the web, print and the likes. Reading about goals is motivating in itself, however, just because we have the formula down pat, does not mean we will succeed or achieve. It’s so easy to get lost in the excitement of setting goals but failure to implement is so prevalent. So… I began to think about what I had written and read between the lines of the real message I was trying to convey, what was the emotion or bottom-line …
